Casual Vacancy Position: Central Goldfields Youth Council

Due to the departure of a current member, Youth Council is looking for a young person to join!

Learn new skills, make new friends and be a voice for young people in your community! You don’t need to have any previous leadership experience- just enthusiasm.

This position is a casual vacancy is to fill the role of the departing member. That means it will last until the end of the current Youth Council term in December 2023.

This casual vacancy position will serve a term of 12 months, starting in January 2023 and finishing in December 2023. Please complete the application form below.

As the Youth Council of Central Goldfields, Youth Councillors have a unique opportunity to help build a vibrant youth voice in our community.

Applications close 5pm, Monday 5 December 2022, with interviews for successfully shortlisted applicants to be held in the week of 16 January due to the Christmas break. All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application by Wednesday 25 January 2023.

  • Provide opportunities for young people to have a say in and influence Council policies, plans, and strategies.
  • Promote the valuable role of young people as members of the community and highlight their ongoing contributions.
  • Provide skill development opportunities for young people to grow as leaders.
  • Provide opportunities for Councillors to meet, hear, and learn from young people.
  • Create opportunities for young people to engage with and learn about the broader community.
  • Attend and contribute to fortnightly meetings, which may be held online or in person (outside of school hours)
  • Provide advice to Council and Shire staff regarding issues affecting young people
  • Be a voice for and advocate on behalf of young people in Central Goldfields
  • Participate in activities that provide a platform for young people to address priorities and emerging issues affecting their lives
  • Participate in the development of policies, strategies and plans that improve outcomes for young people in the community
  • Provide advice on the youth programs provided by the Shire including the Engage! and FReeZA programs
  • Represent the Youth Council and Central Goldfields Shire Council professionally in public
  • Attend community events and civic functions as a Shire representative (when requested)
  • Chair meetings (when requested)
  • Participate in Shire working groups, advisory committees, and steering committees (when requested)
  • Participate in media opportunities where appropriate and requested; and
  • Embody and promote the Council values of Community and customer focussed, Collaborative and inclusive, and Challenge the status quo
