We know our community have been looking forward to the construction of a new Skate and Scooter Park in Maryborough.
Construction of the new park is now underway and is expected to be completed by the end of October 2022- weather permitting.
The $643,260 project is funded by the Victorian Government (Sports Recreation Victoria Local Sports Infrastructure Fund), Council and Community Bank Maryborough, Avoca and St Arnaud (in partnership with the Maryborough Lions Club).
The facility is being constructed by Grind Projects who were awarded the design and construction contract in March, 2021, following a public tender process.
They have years of experience in the design and construction of skate and scooter parks.
The new facility will be located along Lake Road, Maryborough, in the Princes Park precinct near Lake Victoria, the adventure playground and barbecue area.
The project was Identified as a Priority Project for Council in 2018 after more than 1,000 young people signed a petition and presented it to Council.
Throughout 2019 and 2020, Council held several information and community engagement sessions to determine the Skate and Scooter Park’s design and its preferred location.
The initial concept plan was developed by Skate Park design and construction experts Convic, who facilitated design sessions with community members.
The Skate and Scooter Park has been designed to respect the heritage of the site and to accommodate a range of wheeled sports including skateboarding, scooter riding, roller blading and BMX riding.
The design incorporates spectator seating and viewing areas plus shade structures.
It enables passive surveillance for parents and carers from several directions including the adjacent facilities (Adventure Playground and BBQ area).
The facility will provide opportunities for participation and recreational activities for children, young people and adults.
